Czech Republic reintroduces fuel price regulations
In the Czech Republic, state regulation of fuel prices is set to resume, which is expected to impact diesel and gasoline costs. The regulation will cap gas station margins at a maximum of 2.5 CZK per liter for both diesel and gasoline.
Diesel prices have recently been rising, approaching historical highs, but a reduction in excise tax for diesel is anticipated. This, combined with a 10% drop in wholesale prices for both diesel and gasoline since the September peak, could lead to a decrease in consumer prices. Diesel prices may fall toward 48 CZK per liter, while gasoline could move closer to 45 CZK per liter. While the regulation aims to benefit consumers and transporters, it may cause immediate financial losses for gas stations, particularly those located in cities or on highways, due to the need to pass on wholesale price changes immediately.
