Czech Republic reports growth in retail sales and industrial production

The Czech economy showed signs of resilience in July, with both retail and industrial sectors reporting growth. According to the Czech Statistical Office, retail sales (excluding motor vehicle sales and repairs) grew by 4.8% year-on-year, marking the 32nd consecutive month of growth. This increase was driven largely by online and mail-order shops, which saw a 12.4% rise, as well as increases in non-food goods (6.6%), food (2.7%), and fuel (4%).

In the industrial sector, production increased by 3.1% year-on-year in July, despite a slight month-on-month decline attributed to seasonal holiday patterns. Analysts suggest that Czech industry has a strong chance of maintaining growth exceeding 2% for the year, even amidst challenges such as rising energy costs and international competition. The automotive industry specifically saw a 3.5% increase in production, providing a positive signal for the sector.
