Czech Republic reports low female IT participation and tertiary education rates

Data from Eurostat and the OECD highlight significant disparities in the Czech Republic’s education and workforce sectors. Women represent only 12.9% of IT specialists in the country, the lowest proportion in the European Union compared to an EU average of 19.5%. This gender gap begins during higher education, where women make up 56% of students overall but only 18% of ICT students.

Regarding general education levels, only 29% of Czech adults aged 25 to 64 hold a university degree, falling significantly below the OECD average of 43%. Conversely, approximately two-thirds of Czech adults have secondary vocational education, which exceeds the OECD average of 39%. While the share of young adults without secondary education is rising in the Czech Republic, the unemployment rate for recent graduates has decreased to 2% in 2025, lower than the OECD average of 5%.
