Czech Republic education and workforce disparities
Overview
Data from Eurostat and the OECD indicate significant disparities within the Czech Republic’s education and workforce sectors. Women represent only 12.9% of IT specialists, which is the lowest proportion in the European Union compared to an EU average of 19.5%. This gender gap is reflected in higher education, where women comprise 56% of students overall but only 18% of ICT students.
Regarding general education levels, 29% of Czech adults aged 25 to 64 hold a university degree, falling below the OECD average of 43%. However, approximately two-thirds of Czech adults have secondary vocational education, exceeding the OECD average of 39%. While the share of young adults without secondary education is increasing, the unemployment rate for recent graduates decreased to 2% in 2025, which is lower than the OECD average of 5%.
