Czech Republic road works set to disrupt summer traffic

The Czech Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) plans extensive summer repairs on first‑class roads and highways across the country, affecting traffic in South Bohemia and Central Bohemia.

In the Prachatice area of South Bohemia, almost 13 km of first‑class roads will be resurfaced and stabilised, including the I/4 stretch between Vimperk and the Strážný border crossing and the II/145 route around Vimperk. Work will be carried out on one lane under traffic lights, with shuttle services where needed. Some closures, such as the III/14118 bridge at Budkov, will remain until 2026.

In Central Bohemia, the D11 motorway will see a 14‑km repair between Poděbrady and Sadská, and a six‑kilometre section of the I/3 near Votic is scheduled to finish by 7 June. Repairs on the D5 near Beroun and the Šmejkalka bridge on the D1 are also ongoing, with the latter expected to stay in a 2 + 2 lane configuration until at least spring 2027.

The agency has earmarked roughly 8 billion CZK (excluding VAT) for these projects, emphasizing the need to improve deteriorating road conditions that can no longer be postponed.
