Czech Republic Starts Dobrovského Street Revamp in Svitavy and Postpones Prague Ring Overpass Demolition

In Svitavy, the city has begun a comprehensive reconstruction of Dobrovského street on 15 June, slated to continue until late November. The project will replace water and sewer networks, install new sidewalks and improve traffic flow, with temporary restrictions and detours for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and altered bus routes. City spokesperson Kateřina Kotasová said the investment "continues the long‑term plan for modernising the water and sewage lines in the Čtyřicet Lánů area."

Separately, the Czech Road and Motorway Directorate has delayed the demolition of two overpasses on the Prague Ring between Třebonice and Slivenec after unexpected geological conditions were discovered. Contractor Skanska will rebuild the structures to allow the ring’s expansion from four to six lanes. The demolition date has not been set; the new overpasses are expected to open within five to seven months after work began on 18 May, with the full six‑lane upgrade projected for completion by 2029. The reconstruction cost is estimated at roughly 207 million Czech crowns.

Both initiatives reflect ongoing investments in the Czech Republic’s transport infrastructure, aiming to improve safety and capacity while managing short‑term traffic disruptions.
