Czech Republic to build 154 km of new roads and highways
The Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) has announced plans to construct up to 154 kilometers of new highways and first-class roads over the current and upcoming year. This expansion is supported by a record budget from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), which the government has approved at 87 billion CZK for the next year.
The construction program includes 90.8 kilometers of new highways, the expansion of nearly 13 kilometers of existing highways, and 50.3 kilometers of new first-class roads. Key projects slated to begin within the next 15 months include sections of the D52, D6, D7, D48, D55, and D35 motorways. Additionally, work will continue on major bypasses and the capacity expansion of critical routes such as the Prague ring road and the D1 motorway near Brno.
ŘSD Director General Radek Mátl stated that the approved budget allows the agency to pursue its primary goal of completing the backbone highway network. Specific upcoming projects include 17.5 kilometers of the D52 motorway in South Moravia heading toward Austria and the final two sections of the D6 motorway connecting Prague to Karlovy Vary.
