Czech Republic traffic regulations: technical inspections and road markings

In the Czech Republic, drivers must adhere to strict regulations regarding vehicle technical inspections and road markings. Once a vehicle's scheduled technical inspection date passes, it is legally prohibited from being operated on public roads. There is no grace period for traveling to an inspection center; the safest legal method to transport an expired vehicle is via a trailer or tow truck to avoid fines and penalty points.

Regarding road usage, Czech traffic laws distinguish between the prohibition of overtaking and the prohibition of crossing a solid line. A continuous longitudinal line (V 1a) primarily prohibits crossing or overstepping the line with a load. Overtaking a slow vehicle, such as a tractor, may be permissible on a solid line if the road is wide enough to allow the maneuver without the vehicle actually crossing the line. However, if a vertical sign (B 21a) specifically prohibits overtaking, the maneuver is forbidden regardless of the road width. Crossing a solid line to bypass a moving vehicle is a violation, even if the vehicle is moving slowly.
