Central Europe hit by severe storms and widespread weather damage

Severe storms and extreme weather have caused widespread damage across Central and Southeast Europe. In Slovenia, the Primorska region faced wind speeds exceeding 100 km/h, resulting in 150 reported incidents and the activation of 80 firefighting units. A tornado in the Komen municipality damaged 15 structures.

In Croatia, heavy storms hit the Kvarner region. Firefighters responded to flooding in Rab, where water was pumped from a kindergarten and a police station, and to roof damage in Lopar. In Rijeka, a thunderstorm caused a temporary power outage at the INA oil refinery.

Slovakia experienced significant storm activity, particularly in Bratislava, where a supercell caused flooding, fallen trees, and minor injuries. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) issued warnings for storms and high temperatures across much of the country. In the Czech Republic, heavy rainfall and wind caused power outages for thousands of households, particularly in the Liberec region, and disrupted railway services.

In Austria, a severe weather front impacted Upper Austria, prompting approximately 220 emergency responses from 130 fire departments.
