Czech Republic's Běchovice‑Úvaly Four‑Lane Bypass Construction Advances

Work on the new four‑lane I/12 bypass between Běchovice and Úvaly in the Czech Republic has begun. Workers have laid the first two hundred metres of asphalt on a temporary bypass on Ke Křížkám street and have started the first of 23 planned bridges. The project, costing about 3.8‑4.0 billion CZK, is being carried out seven days a week with hundreds of specialists and heavy machinery. Roman Zbořil, the site director, said, “Na celém staveništi jsou vedle dělníků také stovky specialistů a nechybí ani desítky kusů těžké techniky, pracuje se sedm dnů v týdnu.” The bypass, scheduled to open in 2028, is expected to divert up to 12 000 vehicles per day away from congested streets in Běchovice, Újezd nad Lesy and Úvaly, reducing transit traffic and improving travel times.

The construction includes six grade‑separated interchanges, eight noise‑reducing walls and 25 earth embankments. Modern technologies such as drone‑based surveying and 3D machine control are being used to increase precision. A spokesperson for the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) said, “Díky přeložce zmizí zdlouhavý průjezd městskými částmi… až 12 tisíc aut.”
