Czech reservoirs face cyanobacteria rise, bathing restrictions issued

Hygienic inspectors sampled water in the Frýdek‑Místek and Karviná districts, noting increased cyanobacteria and chlorophyll in the Baška and Brušperk reservoirs. Laboratory analysis showed no exceedance of safety limits, so the water is still deemed suitable for swimming, though visibility is reduced. Officials warned that warm weather could worsen conditions and advised showering with drinking water after swimming.

In the Vysočina region, most monitored water bodies remain safe for bathing, but a ban continues at Domanínský pond, Trnávka reservoir and Kachlička pond due to high cyanobacteria levels. Officials from the Regional Hygiene Station highlighted health risks from cyanobacteria toxins, especially for children, pregnant women and immunocompromised persons, and recommended ongoing monitoring and precautionary measures.
