Czech road works force widespread street closures and D35 highway detour
The city of Olomouc will implement numerous traffic restrictions this summer, with partial and full closures on streets such as Nemilany bridges, Purkyňova, Fügnerova, Šmerdova, Komenského, Štúrova, Jilemnického, Nedvězí, Šafaříkova, Řezníčkova, Jiráskova, Náměstí Hrdinů, Havlíčkova and Bořivojova. Closures begin on 1 July and run until late August, September or even 18 December, depending on the site, to allow repairs, insulation, pedestrian crossing construction and other upgrades. Detour routes are posted for each affected street.
Separately, the D35 highway section between Ostrov and Vysoké Mýto is slated to open in the second half of August, delayed by the Homole tunnel works. A temporary connector will force all traffic through the village of Ostrov from 6 July until the opening, shortening the usable highway by about 1.5 km. The contract for the section, worth 1.4 billion CZK, was awarded to a Eurovia CZ and M‑Silnice consortium.
