Czech Ministry of Education to simplify high school entrance exams

The Czech Ministry of Education is implementing changes to high school entrance exams to ensure fairness across different educational programs. According to Minister Robert Plaga, the exams will focus on overlapping curriculum content to accommodate students learning under different educational frameworks.

The most significant changes will affect mathematics, specifically in algebra and geometry. Complex tasks, such as calculating the volume of cylinders or using binomial expansion formulas, are expected to be removed. While the Ministry aims for standardization, some educators have expressed concerns. Teachers warn that removing these tasks might prevent high-achieving students from distinguishing themselves and could leave students lacking essential knowledge for their future secondary studies.

In preparation for the upcoming April exams, experts recommend that ninth-grade students engage in regular, gradual practice rather than intensive last-minute cramming. Utilizing past tests and mock exams is advised to help students manage time and anxiety.
