Czech Senate elections head to second round after narrow margins

The first round of the Czech Senate elections has concluded, leading to several second-round runoff contests. In Prague, districts 1, 5, and 9 will hold runoff elections next Friday and Saturday because no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the vote. In Prague 1, Jiří Padevět (STAN) will face Jan Čižinský (Praha sobě) in the second round after receiving 49.64 percent of the votes.

In other regions, extremely narrow margins have prompted candidates to consider legal challenges. In the Žďár nad Sázavou district, Radek Černý (ODS) lost to Josef Klement (KDU-ČSL) by a single vote. Černý is considering a court complaint, citing potential irregularities such as power outages during the counting process.

In Litovel, Michael Kohajd (KDU-ČSL) missed advancing by 146 votes. Similarly, in Karviná, Miriam Szyja missed the runoff by 50 votes. Candidates in these close races are currently reviewing data for any significant irregularities before deciding whether to officially contest the results.
