Czech swimming venues report safety updates amid high attendance and water‑quality concerns

The municipal swimming pool in Zdice, opened on 23 June, sees up to 1,500 visitors a day against a 2,000‑person capacity. Lifeguards reported a minor burn injury to a child, a cut hand and several bee stings, all treated on site. Safety protocols include rotating slide operation hourly, increased staff during heat waves, and strict enforcement of rules such as no dogs, no cycling and modest swimwear. The pool’s depth was reduced last year to speed water warming, now ranging from 115 cm to 170 cm.

Meanwhile, water quality at the Seč Reservoir has deteriorated, with three monitored sites (Hoješín, Semtín, Ústupky) falling to the third level on a five‑point hygiene scale. The rise in cyanobacteria poses health risks, especially for children, allergy sufferers and immunocompromised individuals. Hygienists advise showering after swimming and avoiding areas with algal blooms, though a full ban is not yet imposed.
