Czech theatre features new classical comedy and opera productions

The Ostrožko-Lhotské divadlo has staged a new production of the 19th-century classic comedy ‘Dámský krejčí’ (The Ladies' Tailor) at the castle courtyard in Uherský Ostroh.

In Prague, the Hybernia Theatre will host the sole Prague performance of the opera production ‘Divadlo světla’ (Theatre of Light) on September 15, 2026. Created through a collaboration between Geisslers Hofcomoedianten, DAMU, and the Musica Florea orchestra, the production is inspired by Anne Delaflotte Mehdevi’s novel ‘Le Théâtre de Slávek’.

Set in 18th-century Prague, the story follows a boy named Slávek who, after a tragic accident involving Count František Antonín Špork, becomes a master of light in baroque theatre. The production, composed by Jan Jirásek, blends baroque aesthetics with modern theatrical language.
