D6 and D1 highways face closures in Czech Republic and Slovakia

Road workers closed a 9‑kilometre section of the D6 highway near Kladensk, Czech Republic, on Friday to repair a damaged carriageway in a traffic‑restriction zone. The work began before 09:00 and a tentative reopening time of 18:00 was given, but the duration depends on how quickly the new surface hardens. The repair follows an earlier bridge reconstruction that had already reduced the lane capacity.

In Slovakia, the D1 motorway near Hričovský Podhradí was shut after a massive traffic accident at kilometre 188, near the airport exit, rendering the road impassable. Police confirmed the incident and urged drivers to follow instructions. The same day, the Višňové tunnel on the D1 was closed because of a smoking vehicle, a train collision (EC 174) disrupted international rail services, and a truck struck a signalling trailer near Dolný Hričov, briefly halting traffic on the motorway.

These incidents collectively disrupted road and rail travel across the two neighboring countries, affecting commuters and freight movement.
