Czech used‑car market prices surge as Chinese brands break into top ten

In May, Czech used‑car sales rose 5 % month‑on‑month, with 76,459 vehicles sold, the highest since April. The average transaction price climbed to 327,770 CZK, up 8.3 % year‑on‑year, despite higher fuel costs. The market continues to be dominated by older, lower‑priced cars; vehicles under 200,000 CZK account for about half of sales. Fuel price shifts are evident – gasoline models now represent 57 % of sales, up from 51 %, while diesel fell to 41 %.

At the same time, Chinese manufacturers have entered the Czech market’s top‑ten list of brands for the first time. Family SUVs such as the Jaecoo 7 and MG ZS are driving the surge, benefiting from price‑performance balance that resonates with buyers after supply shortages during the COVID‑19 crisis. Nearly twenty Chinese marques are now sold in the Czech Republic, with Chery’s Jaecoo 7 currently the best‑selling Chinese model.

The combined trends indicate a reshaping of Czech car demand: higher used‑car prices, a shift toward gasoline powertrains, and growing acceptance of Chinese‑made vehicles as cost‑effective alternatives.
