Czech utility ČEZ sees surge in electric‑vehicle charging in Ústí region

In the first half of 2026, electric‑vehicle drivers in the Ústí nad Labem region drew more than 460 MWh of electricity from public chargers, a 57 % year‑on‑year increase. The rise follows the opening of new charging locations at the end of 2025, with CEZ operating almost 100 stations in the region. The busiest site was the Olympia shopping centre in Teplice, where customers added over 40 MWh during shopping trips. CEZ opened its 1 000th charging stand at the start of the year and plans to operate 1 200 stations, investing through the Operational Programme Transport and its own funds. “Electromobility in the Czech Republic is on the rise and we want to be ready for growing demand. Our goal this year is to run a network of 1 200 stations and keep charging times short,” said Pavel Cyrani, vice‑chairman of the CEZ board.

National transport data released by the Ministry of Transport show that the number of registered electric passenger cars grew from just over 8 000 in 2020 to nearly 60 000 in 2025. Road freight volumes rose by more than 30 % year‑on‑year, while the average age of the vehicle fleet increased to 16.68 years. Luděk Sosna, director of strategy at the ministry, described the trends as a sign of a functioning economy, noting continued growth in road and rail freight despite a decline in inland water transport.
