Czech electric‑vehicle charging surge

In the first half of 2026, Czech utility ČEZ reported sharp increases in electricity consumption at public electric‑vehicle (EV) charging stations across multiple regions. A July report highlighted a 67 % year‑on‑year jump in the Vysočina region, with 8.5 million kWh drawn and key sites such as the Herálec hub and Jihlava station accounting for the bulk of the rise. ČEZ is expanding its network toward a national target of 1,200 charging points, adding high‑power and ultra‑fast chargers.

A few days later, an August report showed a similar 57 % surge in the Ústí nad Labem region, where more than 460 MWh were used. The region now hosts almost 100 stations, including the busiest site at the Olympia shopping centre in Teplice. ČEZ celebrated its 1,000th charging stand and reiterated its goal of operating 1,200 stations while keeping charging times short. National transport data confirm rapid growth in EV registrations, rising from about 8,000 in 2020 to nearly 60,000 in 2025, underscoring the expanding demand for public charging infrastructure.
