Czech youth face housing challenges amid rising reliance on family support
In the Czech Republic, young people face significant challenges in achieving housing independence. In Příbram, the city has partnered with the Pepa Children's Home to provide a trial apartment. This initiative allows young adults who are still studying to live in a rental property managed by the home, helping them practice independent living skills such as budgeting and self-care before fully transitioning out of institutional care.
On a broader national scale, a survey by Ipsos for Broker Consulting highlights a growing trend of intergenerational financial support. Nearly 90% of parents surveyed believe that young people aged 18 to 40 cannot achieve homeownership without family assistance. To bridge this gap, many parents are making significant financial sacrifices, including using retirement savings or leveraging family properties—such as primary residences or vacation homes—to help their children secure housing.
