Czech zoos welcome rare red panda twins and first crowned pigeon chick

Olomouc Zoo announced the birth of its first red panda twins, the first such litter ever recorded at the facility. The mother, a first‑time parent, gave birth to two cubs after a five‑year breeding program with a male from a French zoo. Staff are monitoring the cubs closely and have asked the public to help by providing bamboo for their diet.

Separately, Ostrava Zoo reported the successful hatching of a Sclater's crowned pigeon chick, the first for the institution after 15 years of effort. The breeding pair consists of a seven‑year‑old male originally from Copenhagen and a female acquired from a German zoo in 2024. The zoo highlighted the challenges of breeding this stress‑sensitive species and noted that only four European zoos have managed a similar success in the past year.
