Czechia ranks 23rd in English proficiency index

Czechia has ranked 23rd out of 180 countries in the English Proficiency Index (EPI), trailing behind neighboring Slovakia, which remains in the top ten. While Czechs demonstrate strong skills in grammar, reading, and listening, they face significant challenges in practical, active communication.

Tereza Vejvodová, Marketing Director for Education First in the Czech Republic, attributes these difficulties to traditional teaching methods focused on rote memorization and a lack of exposure to live language. Additionally, a fear of making mistakes often creates mental blocks during conversation. Data indicates that English proficiency tends to decline significantly in individuals over the age of forty.

In the modern labor market, advanced English is increasingly viewed as a standard requirement, with recruiters often looking for additional languages. Experience living abroad is noted by professionals as a key indicator of a candidate's independence and adaptability.
