Czechia tests new emergency warning systems via radio and mobile

The Czech Republic is testing new methods for public emergency warnings to ensure citizens are notified during floods, fires, or other crises. One primary technology being implemented is the Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) system, which utilizes digital DAB+ radio broadcasting. This system allows compatible radio receivers to automatically wake from standby mode and switch to an emergency channel to broadcast vital information.

A significant advantage of the ASA system is its reliance on radio broadcasting, which remains functional even if mobile networks or internet services fail during a disaster.

In addition to radio-based alerts, authorities are preparing the implementation of Cell Broadcast technology. Unlike traditional SMS messages that are sent individually, Cell Broadcast can simultaneously transmit warning messages to all mobile phones located within a specific high-risk area, providing rapid notification to the affected population.
