Czech Republic emergency alert system development

Overview

Czech Radio has partnered with the Integrated Rescue System (IZS) to develop a framework for emergency broadcasting and public crisis communication. This initiative focuses on providing rapid, verified information during events such as floods, fires, blackouts, or radiation accidents.

A central component of this effort is the testing of the Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) system. Utilizing DAB+ digital broadcasting, the technology can automatically wake compatible receivers from standby mode to broadcast updates on the Radiožurnál news channel. This radio-based approach is intended to remain functional even if mobile networks, the internet, or electricity fail.

In addition to radio developments, authorities are preparing to implement Cell Broadcast technology. This method allows for the simultaneous transmission of warning messages to all mobile phones within specific high-risk areas, offering a faster alternative to traditional SMS.
