Czersk Castle: 9-year-old discovers 1624 silver coin
A nine-year-old boy discovered a 400-year-old silver coin while visiting Czersk Castle in Poland. The find, identified as a Prussian 'półtorak' minted in 1624, dates back to the era of Duke George William.
According to the Masovian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments, the coin was minted in Königsberg and had a nominal value of 1.5 groszy, making it a common item used in daily transactions during the 17th century. Although the coin weighs less than one gram, historians and archaeologists consider it a significant artifact for understanding the monetary circulation and daily life on Polish lands during that period.
The discovery highlights the importance of small finds in reconstructing historical contexts, as such items provide insight into the economic activities of communities that once inhabited the region.
