Da Nang city speeds up mining permit reviews and cracks down on illegal waste dumping

Da Nang municipal authorities are accelerating the review of environmental impact assessments for mining permits, setting a maximum processing time of 21 days. Deputy Chairman Tran Nam Hung chaired a meeting on 5 August urging mines to increase extraction capacity to meet construction material needs, noting the city holds 41 active mining licences and reserves of roughly 16.9 million m³ of stone, 0.66 million m³ of sand and 4.07 million m³ of fill.

At the same time, City Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung ordered stricter waste‑collection controls, mandating that illegal dumping be addressed within four hours and introducing “cold‑penalty” camera enforcement. The city generates about 1,600‑1,700 tonnes of solid waste daily, with collection crews facing labour shortages. Plans include establishing formal waste‑collection points by August 2026, removing informal dumps, and deploying small and electric collection vehicles, supported by digital monitoring in three wards.
