Da Nang police warn citizens of Zalo account hijacking scams

The Da Nang Police Department’s Cybersecurity and High‑Tech Crime Unit has received numerous complaints that scammers are hijacking Zalo social‑media accounts. After gaining access, perpetrators impersonate the account holder, send messages to friends and relatives, and use tactics such as false “like” or voting requests in fake contests. Victims who click the supplied links and re‑enter login details have their credentials captured, allowing the fraudsters to change linked phone numbers, control the account, and solicit money or spread additional malicious links.

Police advise users not to click unfamiliar links—even if sent by acquaintances—especially any that request a login. They recommend confirming any money‑transfer request by phone, enabling two‑factor authentication on Zalo and other apps, and staying informed about common cyber‑fraud techniques. The warning targets all Da Nang residents who may receive such messages.
