Da Nang to reshape 10 rural districts into city wards by July 2026

Vietnam’s leader Tô Lâm urged accelerated foreign‑investment cooperation and a shift toward proactive risk management while the Party’s Central Committee set a target for Da Nang to complete the re‑organisation of communes and wards by July 2026. The city’s administration presented a plan to convert ten existing rural communes – Hòa Vang, Hòa Tiến, Bà Nà, Đại Lộc, Điện Bàn Tây, Chiên Đàn, Núi Thành, Tam Anh, Nam Phước and Thăng Bình – into urban wards without changing their geographic size or population.

Public consultation showed overwhelming support, with more than 99 % of the 108 599 households that responded approving the change. After the re‑classification, Da Nang will have 33 wards, 60 communes and one special zone, expanding its total area to nearly 12 000 km² and making it the second‑largest city in Vietnam after Đồng Nai.
