Son Tra Peninsula search continues after waves sweep tourists into sea

A search and rescue operation is underway in Da Nang, Vietnam, following a maritime accident at Mui Nghe on the Son Tra Peninsula. On August 8, a group of six people was visiting the area for photography when sudden large waves swept four individuals into the sea.

One man was successfully rescued by a fishing boat, and 24-year-old Truong Thi Phuong was found alive by a Navy vessel after drifting at sea for approximately eight hours. Phuong survived by utilizing survival techniques, including lying on her back to breathe, and using a makeshift float made from two plastic bottles to stay afloat.

Despite this rescue, search efforts continue for two other women who remain missing. The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (VMRCC) and various naval and border guard forces are coordinating to expand the search radius within a 5-nautical-mile zone of Mui Nghe. Authorities noted that difficult terrain and complex currents are complicating the operation.
