Daayra box office sees growth after modest opening

The crime thriller Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has seen a fluctuating opening at the Indian box office. The film, which explores themes of justice and police accountability following a sensitive rape and murder case, opened to a modest start with collections reported between Rs 90 lakh and Rs 1.16 crore on its first day.

By the second day, the film showed signs of growth, with Saturday collections rising to approximately Rs 1.60 crore, bringing its two-day total to roughly Rs 2.60 crore to Rs 3.34 crore depending on the report. Despite this momentum, Daayra is facing competition from Kunal Kemmu’s directorial comedy-adventure Vibe, which has maintained a lead in domestic earnings during the opening weekend.

Critical reception for Daayra has been mixed. While some critics have praised Kapoor’s performance and the film’s intense, socially relevant subject matter, others have described the screenplay as dull or lacking engagement. The film’s ultimate commercial success will depend on its ability to sustain audience interest through the remainder of the weekend.
