Dacia Duster rolls out ultra‑efficient engine and new Hybrid 155 model
Renault‑Geely joint venture Horse Technologies, together with Repsol, has built a concept engine for the third‑generation Dacia Duster that claims to exceed 30 km per litre (about 3.3 L/100 km) and achieve a thermal efficiency above 44 %. The three‑cylinder turbo unit incorporates a high 17:1 compression ratio, redesigned combustion, and special low‑friction lubricants.
The same Duster line will also be offered with a full‑hybrid powertrain called the Hybrid 155. It pairs a 1.789‑litre gasoline engine with two electric motors for a combined 155 hp and 205 Nm. Official WLTP figures show 4.7 L/100 km, while real‑world tests report 6 L/100 km in mixed driving and around 7 L/100 km on highways. Reviewers note solid chassis dynamics and good visibility, but point out a noisy engine, hard interior plastics and occasional infotainment glitches.
Both developments underline Dacia’s strategy of delivering practical, affordable SUVs while pushing the limits of internal‑combustion efficiency alongside hybrid electrification.
