North Gyeongsang Province floods force hundreds to evacuate and damage roads

Heavy rain on 18‑19 May dumped more than 200 mm in parts of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, causing widespread flooding, road washouts and landslide risks. In the counties of Andong, Uiseong, Yeongju and surrounding areas, 292 households (366 people) were ordered to evacuate to community centers and shelters.

The deluge also inundated temporary housing built for wildfire‑displaced residents, damaging dozens of units and cutting power and water supplies. Authorities reported over 800 incidents of home, road and infrastructure damage, including four road losses and eight power outages, all of which have been restored. No fatalities have been confirmed.

Emergency services responded to more than 160 safety‑related calls, performing rescues, clearing debris and securing flood‑prone zones. The provincial disaster‑safety headquarters remains on emergency level 1, and the Korea Meteorological Administration warns that additional rain of up to 100 mm is expected through the week.
