Daegu integrates system semiconductors with robotics and mobility industries

Daegu is accelerating the development of its system semiconductor industry by linking it with the city's core sectors of robotics and future mobility. Unlike other regions focusing on large-scale production facilities, Daegu's strategy centers on designing and verifying semiconductors tailored to the specific needs of local industries. The city aims to utilize its existing fabless support infrastructure, including the Intelligent Semiconductor Development Support Center and the High-Reliability Semiconductor Verification Support Center, to reduce costs and time for small and medium-sized fabless companies.

To support this ecosystem, Daegu has increased its budget by 1.71 billion won to fund semiconductor development, verification, and specialized university support. Additionally, educational institutions like Gyeongbuk Mechanical Technical High School are contributing to the talent pipeline. The school has reported high employment rates, with over 32% of its 2025 graduates securing positions in the semiconductor sector at companies such as Amkor Technology Korea and Stats Chippac Korea. Efforts are also underway through Kyungpook National University to cultivate practical, industry-ready semiconductor professionals.
