Daegu intensifies push to attract second‑round public agency relocations

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is drafting a roadmap for the second round of public‑agency relocations, aiming to finalise the plan by year‑end and begin office‑lease and joint‑building projects next year. The ministry has completed a nationwide survey of agencies and local demand, and is reviewing placement principles.

In Daegu, the mayor and local lawmakers held a policy forum with more than 100 participants, including experts, industry groups and agency representatives, to outline the city’s strategy. They highlighted Daegu’s transport, medical, cultural and shopping infrastructure, top‑ranked education system, and affordable housing as attractive conditions for agency staff and families. Speakers presented plans to link the relocation with development of five future industries—AI, robotics, semiconductors, mobility and bio‑medicine—and to create clusters that connect existing and new institutions. Daegu has listed 34 potential agencies such as IBK Bank and the Korea Environment Corporation, while neighbouring North Gyeongsang Province has identified 46 candidates including the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and the Korea Racing Authority.
