Daejon Love accused of $1.3 million romance and investment scam

Daejon Love is accused of orchestrating a romance and investment scam that allegedly defrauded at least 26 women of more than $1.3 million. According to reports, Love used dating apps to build romantic connections with victims across California and Oregon, posing as a wealthy individual from Switzerland and a player for the San Francisco 49ers.

An 18-year-old, Taylor Chan, allegedly assisted in the scheme by acting as Love’s financial advisor and using falsified investment gains to convince victims to invest or lend money. In some instances, the pair allegedly used threats of physical harm to coerce victims into handing over savings.

In response to the rise of such online scams, the public-records company PeopleFinders has launched 'Stud or Dud,' a new dating safety platform. The website allows users to perform background checks on potential dates by aggregating public records, including address history and bankruptcies, to help users verify identities before meeting.
