DAET strengthens extortion prevention in Choluteca

The Anti-Extortion and Terrorist Associations Division (DAET) of the Honduran National Police has implemented a series of prevention measures in Choluteca throughout August to combat extortion. Under the ‘Comercio Seguro’ (Safe Commerce) strategy, authorities provided advisory services to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to protect their financial and personal data from criminal gangs.

Security efforts have also been extended to the transportation sector through saturation patrols and meetings at bus terminals, focusing on urban, interurban, and taxi services. Additionally, police conducted training sessions in secondary schools to protect students from forced recruitment by gangs and to mitigate the sale and consumption of drugs in educational environments.

Authorities have encouraged citizens in southern Honduras to report extortion attempts via the dedicated Line 143.
