Daidalos supercomputer inaugurated in Greece
Greece has inaugurated Daidalos, its new national supercomputer, located at the Lavrio Technological and Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens. The system features a measured performance of 85.69 petaflops, ranking it 31st in the global TOP500 list as of June 2026 and 23rd in the Green500 for energy efficiency.
The project, implemented by GRNET (ΕΔΥΤΕ) with a total budget of 58.9 million euros, was funded by the EU through the NextGenerationEU program and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. The infrastructure utilizes NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips and Hewlett Packard Enterprise architecture.
Daidalos will serve as the computing core for the Pharos AI Factory, supporting the development of generative AI, large language models, and various scientific applications including medical research, climate modeling, energy, and cybersecurity. The system is intended to provide high-performance computing resources to universities, research centers, startups, and large enterprises, fostering technological autonomy and innovation within Greece.
