Daidalos supercomputer to launch in Greece
Greece is launching Daidalos, a new national supercomputer designed to support the development and training of artificial intelligence models. Located at the new Data Center in the Lavriou Technological Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens, the system will provide computational resources to universities, research centers, startups, SMEs, and public agencies.
The project is an initiative of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, implemented by the National Technological Infrastructure Network (GRNET). With a total budget of 58.9 million euros, the project is part of the ‘Greece 2.0’ National Recovery and Resilience Plan and is funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU and the EuroHPC JU.
Daidalos has a measured performance of 85.69 petaflops, ranking it 31st globally on the TOP500 list and 23rd on the Green500 list for energy efficiency. It serves as the core of the Greek artificial intelligence factory, PHAROS, which connects computing infrastructure to the specific needs of AI application development.
