Daimaru Matsuzakaya launches AI-driven marketing service

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store has introduced ‘Asumise Insight,’ a new data marketing service designed to analyze customer behavior and feedback using artificial intelligence. The service will be offered to brands participating in ‘Asumise,’ a multi-purpose experiential showroom located in the Daimaru Tokyo store.

The system utilizes AI-equipped cameras to track customer movements, demographics, and dwell times. This data is combined with qualitative insights gathered by staff members—referred to as ‘ambassadors’—who record specific customer reactions and reasons for interest or hesitation. The resulting data is provided to brands via visual dashboards and CSV files to assist in product development and marketing strategies.

President Koji Munemori stated that the service aims to transform hypotheses about consumer behavior into ‘true voices’ by digitizing real-time interactions. The Asumise space, which functions as a showrooming site where customers can test products before purchasing them online, has seen its exhibition fee revenue grow approximately fivefold over the past five years.
