Daimler Truck pushes electric truck rollout, delivers first eEconic waste trucks in Stuttgart

Daimler Truck is expanding its efficiency programmes while accelerating the electrification of trucks and buses. The German group is standardising vehicle platforms to accommodate diesel, battery‑electric and future hydrogen powertrains, aiming to keep costs stable in cyclical markets and to capture new revenue from digital fleet services. The strategy targets growth in Europe, North America and Asia and relies on modular construction, flexible production capacity and tighter cost control.

Mercedes‑Benz Trucks, a Daimler subsidiary, handed over the first five of ten battery‑electric eEconic trucks to Stuttgart’s municipal waste management firm Abfallwirtschaft Stuttgart. The eEconic combines a 21 m³ rear loader and a low‑noise powertrain, allowing quiet, CO₂‑free collection even on the city’s steep terrain. The new Stuttgart‑Wangen site features dedicated overhead chargers and a large rooftop PV system, highlighting the partnership’s focus on circular‑economy solutions and improved working conditions for drivers.
