Dajabón border trade faces reports of Haitian restrictions

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding trade at the Dajabón-Ouanaminthe border crossing between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Some reports indicate that Haitian authorities, supported by the Haitian National Police, implemented restrictions on Monday, September 14, preventing the entry of various Dominican goods. The reported restricted items include wheat flour, edible oil, detergent, drinking water, butter, margarine, construction iron, pasta, beverages, and heavy construction equipment. According to these reports, the directive suggests such goods must be transported via air or sea rather than by land.

However, representatives from the Dominican Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) in Dajabón state that commercial exchange is continuing normally. Officials claim there is no current official document establishing these restrictions and that the products mentioned in the rumors continue to cross the border without incident. They noted that Dominican authorities are maintaining ongoing conversations with Haitian counterparts regarding commercial matters.
