Dak Doa Police warn of scammers impersonating government officials

Police in Dak Doa commune, Dak Lak province, have issued a warning regarding a scam involving individuals impersonating People's Committee officials via the Zalo messaging app.

In a recent incident, a resident was contacted by an individual claiming to be an official from the People's Committee's One-Stop Shop department. The scammer attempted to guide the resident through procedures to integrate land use certificates into the VNeID electronic identification application. To establish credibility, the perpetrator used video calls with staged backgrounds resembling government offices.

The scammer requested the resident to take photos of their face and provide bank account details and OTP codes under the guise of paying service fees. The resident avoided financial loss by becoming suspicious and verifying the claims with local authorities.

Authorities advise citizens to remain vigilant against strangers using unknown phone numbers to discuss administrative procedures related to land, identity cards, or electronic identification. They specifically warn against sharing sensitive information or OTP codes during video calls on social media platforms.
