Dak Lak Police arrest man for 870 million VND romance scam

The Dak Lak Provincial Police have arrested Le Tri Tue, born in 1992, for allegedly defrauding a victim of over 870 million VND through a social media romance scam.

According to investigators, between March 26, 2026, and April 30, 2026, Tue established a fake romantic relationship with the victim, P. L. N. T., to build trust. Tue used various deceptive tactics, including fabricating stories about family illnesses and financial hardships. To increase credibility, the suspect used falsified land use certificates, videos of a house, and fake social media accounts impersonating relatives to confirm false information regarding property transactions.

Once the victim began to suspect the deception, Tue cut off contact and deleted social media accounts. On September 7, 2026, authorities issued a criminal prosecution decision and an arrest warrant for the crime of ‘fraudulent appropriation of property.’ The Dak Lak People's Procuracy approved these decisions on September 8.
