Dak Lak Police warn of brand impersonation scams on Facebook

Dak Lak Provincial Police issued a warning regarding a recurring online scam targeting social media users, particularly on Facebook. Fraudsters are creating fake fanpages and accounts that impersonate famous brands and reputable businesses using similar logos, names, and interfaces.

These accounts lure victims by advertising fake promotional programs, such as “customer appreciation,” “lucky spins,” or “free gifts.” Once users engage, they are instructed to complete tasks like liking or sharing posts. Scammers often start with small transactions and promise high returns to build trust.

As victims become more involved, scammers demand larger transfers under various pretexts, including “account verification,” “reward activation,” or “tax payments.” To manipulate victims, scammers use pre-established community groups that post fake messages of successful payouts to create a false sense of legitimacy. Once the victim can no longer pay or becomes suspicious, the scammers block contact and delete all traces of the interaction.
