Dakar TikToker arrested for privacy violations

Sokhna Mélanie Decko, a 23-year-old TikToker known as ‘Mélanie’, has been arrested and referred to the prosecutor in Dakar. The arrest was conducted by the Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) following a complaint filed by a Yango partner driver, Mr. Ndiaye.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of July 11, 2026, after a dispute regarding a ride destination. According to the complaint, Decko filmed the driver without his consent and posted the footage to her TikTok account, which has over 342,000 followers. The driver alleges that the viral videos have damaged his reputation and potentially jeopardized his professional relationship with Yango.

Decko faces accusations of illicit data collection, unauthorized dissemination of personal data, and infringement of privacy. During her interrogation, she reportedly admitted to the actions but claimed she filmed the encounter because the driver had insulted her first.
