Senegal cybersecurity arrests involving TikTok users

Overview

The Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) in Senegal has conducted arrests involving TikTok users for various digital offenses.

In mid-August, authorities arrested a suspect identified as ‘Madame Thiam’ in Thiès for alleged fraud via the ‘Mini-Marché SN’ account. The suspect reportedly used the platform to advertise food packs at attractive prices, only to block victims after receiving money transfers. While the suspect claimed only nine victims, investigators found evidence of over 80 transactions.

Shortly thereafter, the DSC arrested 23-year-old TikToker Sokhna Mélanie Decko in Dakar. Decko was accused of privacy violations and unauthorized dissemination of personal data after filming a Yango driver without consent following a dispute. Decko admitted to the filming but claimed she acted because the driver had insulted her first.
