Senegal prepares for historic 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar

Senegal is intensifying preparations for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG), scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 13. This event marks the first time the YOG will be hosted on the African continent, with competitions spread across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly.

In anticipation of the expected influx of international tourists, the Senegalese Ministries of Justice and Tourism have signed a charter to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation. The initiative aims to define the responsibilities of various ministries, institutions, and tourism professionals to ensure the protection of minors during the games.

Diplomatic and cultural efforts are also underway to promote the event. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Djirèye Clotilde Coly, has engaged in diplomatic discussions with ambassadors from Türkiye, Iran, and Thailand to foster cooperation in sports and professional training. Additionally, Senegalese musician Youssou Ndour will feature the official mascot, Ayo, at a concert in Paris to increase international visibility.
