Dallas and Houston face extreme heat under Texas heat dome

A high‑pressure system, described as a “heat dome,” is inflating temperatures across North Texas. In Dallas, forecasts call for highs near 97 °F (36 °C) with heat‑index values reaching 106 °F (41 °C) and a 55 % chance of afternoon rain. Nighttime lows are expected to stay around 77 °F (25 °C).

In Houston, daytime highs are projected in the low‑ to mid‑90s °F (32‑35 °C) with humid conditions that could push perceived temperatures above 100 °F in the afternoon. The dome limits thunderstorm development, keeping rain chances low through the week and extending the period of elevated heat stress for outdoor workers, commuters and event attendees, including those gathered for the 2026 World Cup.

Authorities advise staying hydrated, seeking shade and avoiding prolonged exposure, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and people with medical conditions.
