Daman Ganga barrage project near Vapi to cost 159.50 crore rupees
The Gujarat government has initiated an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project to build a barrage on the Daman Ganga River near Vapi in the Valsad district. The project, valued at approximately 159.50 crore rupees, is being fast-tracked under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Located near Namdha village, about 3 kilometers downstream from the existing Vapi weir, the new barrage is expected to have a total storage capacity of 5.49 million cubic meters (MCM) with a catchment area of 2,250.73 square kilometers. The project aims to enhance water security by improving irrigation, recharging groundwater, and managing salinity.
Key benefits include providing irrigation to approximately 549 hectares of land, benefiting six villages: Namdha, Chandor, Mohan, Eklahare, Nahuli, and Jamburi. Through lift and pressurized irrigation, farmers may be able to cultivate two or more crops annually. Additionally, the project will bolster water availability for industrial and municipal needs in the Vapi region. Current data shows the existing Vapi weir supplies 19 MCM for industrial use via GIDC, 7.30 MCM for water supply, and 6 MCM to the Vapi Municipal Corporation.
